FULL TEXT OF THE PRESS RELEASE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA, HELD IN JOS FROM 23RD TO 25TH OF NOVEMBER, 2022, IN SUPPORT OF THE STANCE OF THE HONORABLE MINISTER OF EDUCATION, MALLAM ADAMU ADAMU, CON, ON THE REMOVAL OF THE STRANGE CURRICULUM ON SEXUALITY EDUCATION

At its meeting held at Nigerian Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) , Jos, Plateau State, between 23rd and 25th November, 2022 which had in attendance proprietors of various denominational schools, faith-based private schools, principals, head teachers, leaders of parents' teachers' fellowships/ associations, school chaplains and other stake holders , the Association of Christian Schools in Nigeria (ACSN) reviewed the position of the Honorable Minister of Education, MALLAM ADAMU ADAMU, CON, on the removal of the strange curriculum on sexuality education.

Rising from the Annual General Assembly , the Association of Christian Schools in Nigeria (ACSN)

1. NOTED THAT

There is a deliberate and calculated global drive to subtly influence curriculum content in Nigeria in ways that impose gender and sexuality value systems alien to us as a people and as a nation.

We must assert our rights as a people in a post-colonial context to determine basic and crucial parameters such as curriculum contents in our schools.

Under no circumstances should we trade away our children's rights to natural and normal sex education but rather assert them with all dignity, pride, and grave importance.

2. OBSERVED THAT

Determining curriculum contents for our children (0-18 years) who also make up about 50% of the population of the country (that is, well over 100 million) and for the unborn generation, is not only crucial to the future moral compass of Nigeria but also demands the input of parents, schools, and religious leaders.

3. AGREED THAT

The sponsors of this toxic curriculum, having failed in their own society and, currently grappling with the moral failure as a result, are using gullible and highly placed individuals to fund and introduce into the Nigerian curriculum strange and inimical values that will prevent us from raising our children on issues of sexual purity.

The African society can lead the West by proving that we are not just mammals controlled by hormones or instincts but we are humans created by God and have the power of CHOICE.

4. REAFFIRMED THAT

The societies where this kind of curriculum and funding are coming from are finding it difficult to handle the aftermaths as a society and we do not want to be exposed to the same challenges and repercussions.

5. NOTED VERY CRITICALLY THAT

The Western concept of family transcends what we know in our cultural values as they include same-sex marriage, civil unions, and other incompatible practices. Some of the learning resources include internet use by children as young as six years old; with videos and pictures that promote pornography and show cross-dressers and transgender or "strange" persons in a way that could be made to become acceptable to our children. These things do not tally with our culture and values. We do not want our children corrupted. What terms like puberty delay, gender, body privacy, family and reproductive health, positive and negative values mean in our country Nigeria are different from what they mean in Western cultures. As an instance, while gender means male or female in our country, acronyms like LGBTQIA are popular and legally acceptable in Western countries. While in our culture we know and value the family as a unit comprising a male father, a female mother and children, Western cultures that are promoting this curriculum define a family to include same-sex couples and children. How can children be brought up normally in such an environment?

6. FURTHER NOTED STRONGLY THAT

We need to secure our children's minds and identity and preserve our cultural heritage from strange ideologies from other cultures that promote strange immoral and perverted sex, and confused identities. The current 'comprehensive sex education' materials are doing that exactly. As Dr. Udofia of the University of Uyo said, "Curriculum is societal means of preserving itself from extinction and raising the type of youth that will be functionally occupied in building the society for a better tomorrow and overcome the challenges posed by the environment".

7. CALLED ON

Parents, schools and religious bodies to critically examine the contents of every curriculum and publicly reject information that are immoral, obscene, unnatural and laced with perversion in the name of sex education, even if they are found in approved textbooks.

9. UNANIMOUSLY AGREED

To encourage all parents, schools, and Christian and Islamic religious leaders to rise to defend our morality from being poisoned by Western ideologies on issues of sexuality -- homosexual and transgender ideologies in the name of Sex Education or Family Life and Health Education.

That this is a clarion call on every parent who considers their children as treasures of inestimable value to spend quality time with the children to teach, coach and disciple on issues of character, morality and sexuality.

That we are in an ideological war that is seeking to consume our children so we should neither be deceived nor fooled, as IDEAS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!
